Red Bull Romaniacs event is one of the toughest of all the extreme motorcycle events on planet earth.
- The home of Red Bull Romaniacs is in mainland Europe in the ancient medieval city of Sibiu in the heart of Transylvania.
- The offroad tracks are in the wilderness, forests and valleys and across rivers of the Carpathian mountain ranges in Romania
- Sibiu (Hermannstadt) was the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2007.
So what makes Red Bull Romaniacs so tough? Well for sure this is not a "one day" wonder event.
There is the entertaining in-city Prolog race in the very center of Sibiu where contestants fight over difficult man made obstacles to get to the front of the race and win the right to be the first to start the day one off road stage. Video footage at http://www.redbullromaniacs.com/video/2008/
For four off roads days, a constant battle with stamina, fitness and strength takes place, the steep climbs and descents, and fighting the too hot or very cold weather just to get to the finish. This is not a leisurely ride across some mountains, it a mental battle to just keep going on and on ,pushing both body and machine to the very limits of endurance while striving to get to the finish line before anyone else.
Winning here means the competitor has ridden from start to finish faster in the prolog and four off road days faster than anyone one else (or team).
To Finish is to be a winner, many try and many fail to finish
There are special sections for Professionals, experts, expert teams and hobby teams so riders of all competative abilities can compete, enjoy the event and have a chance of finishing.
There is a "Tourist class" for competitors wishing to visit the region and stay in holiday mood, while still being part of the event, but with out all the stresses and strains of riding the most difficult of tracks.
